Traditional worshipper and activist Mr. Adegbola Abdulazeez, a.k.a. Tani Ọlọhun was kidnapped by one notorious kidnapper named Mr. Oniyawo Meta in Ibadan, Oyo State, and was transported to Ilorin in Kwara State.
- The arrest and detention of Tani Ọlọhun is based on a complaint by some Ilorin Islamic clerics in Ilorin. They claimed to be defamed by Tani Ọlọhun in comments he purportedly made on Facebook.
- The said suspect has remained in the custody of the police since the 16th of August 2023, just because some people what to show off their power.
- He was never charged, neither was he accused of any defamation in Ibadan where he is residing, but they kidnapped him in Ibadan and forced him to Ilorin.
- Ibadan is under Oyo State not Kwara. There are law enforcements in Oyo state, this is a big slap on the Governor of Oyo State Gov. Seyi Makinde. The Nigeria police have stations in Ibadan, there are also courts in Ibadan, Oyo state.
- The commissioner of police of Kwara is also part of this illegality, Tani Ọlọhun must be taken back to Oyo State to be tried if there is any case against him.
- He never committed any crime against these people other than responding to their attack on him and his religion. If there is any case against him, it should be in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Irrespective of the allegations made against Tani Ọlọhun, it is unacceptable that the Nigeria Police Force has once again allowed itself to be used as a tool of oppression and attainment of a personal vendetta by an influential member of one religion against another.
It is scandalous that the Kwara State Police under the watch of Mrs Ebunoluwa Rotimi Adelesi, a body that is supposed to protect and upheld the peace of the nation, the constitution, and laws, has been thoroughly abused in Nigeria and is being deployed by every Tom, Dick, and Harry to settle personal scores. This is reprehensible and condemnable.
This is a cry out for help for the other religions in Nigeria has been oppressed by some religious leaders. Many are being unjustly arrested, and illegally detained by the Nigerian police even when there is no incriminating evidence.

Furthermore, in Executive Summary, “The constitution bars the federal and state governments from adopting a state religion, prohibits religious discrimination, and provides for individuals’ freedom to choose, practice, propagate, or change their religion”.
We are calling on the IGP to order the immediate release of Mr. Adegbola Abdulazeez, a.k.a. Tani Olohun, and conduct an investigation into the matter. Please, also made the Kwara State Commissioner of Police read the Constitution of Nigeria, she must be reminded that she is a policewoman, not the Judge, not imposing one religion on people.
